On this tour you will learn about the history and architecture of Leon city since the discovery of its territory, conquest and foundation to the current days while enjoying a unique volcanic landscape and exploring the Nicaraguan culture at your own pace.

After a 50 minutes transfer from your hotel in Leon you will start visiting the ruins of Leon viejo. The old city was founded by Spaniards in 1524 and left by its inhabitants 68 years later because of tremendous activities from Momotombo Volcano.  The ruins are now recognized by UNESCO as Cultural and Historical World Heritage Site  as a symbol of Spanish conquest. During the tour; you are going to walk a bit longer than 1 hour on a well mantained and shady path while visiting the most important structures always accompanied by your expert guide  who will give his best to interpret everything in a clear, simple and attractive way. At this time you can expect to see some birds crossing your way so bring along your camara.

After visiting the ruins you will continue by car moving to the shores of Lake’s Managua for a closer view to Momotombo Volcano and Momotombito Island, really a great chance for taking memorable photos. Then on the way back to the new city you will stop at La Paz Centro town to learn and experience the making process for bricks and tiles wich is a interesting and common  activity of the area. On your return in Leon you will have some time off to rest, or take a shower.

After lunch you will continue with the second part of the tour exploring the new city of Leon which has always been one of the most important cities of Nicaragua, Leon has funtioned as capital city several times after its independence from Spain in 1821. You will visit murals, churches, central market and museums as well as the largest and most beutiful cathedral in Central America. In the cathedral, you’ll be able to walk up to the roof where you can photograph the city itself and the volcanoes that surround it. Finally you’ll get invited for a fresh drink while saying goodbye with your guide.
