Cerro Negro hike & Leon City
This adventure begins right after breakfast with a fifty minutes transfer on a 4×4 vehicle to the base of cerro negro volcano at 300 meters above sea level. On the way you will pass through rural communities and traditional crops fields having the opportunity of learning about the nicaragua rural lifestyle. Cerro Negro Volcano has 5 craters and is ranked as one of the youngest volcanoes in the world and one of the most active in Nicaragua. Its permanent activity has made it impossible for any kind of vegetation to grow on its steep and dark slopes, allowing a 360-degree view where several volcanoes stand out. The hike is short and surprisingly easy as you can reach the top in 1 hour. The descent is even easier and probably the most fun part since it is possible to jump or run down the sandy slope and return to the base of the volcano in 5 or 10 minutes. Alternatively; you can choose to sit on a board and slide down for a little extra cost.
Once you return to Leon you will have time to take a shower and eat lunch before meeting with you guide for the walking city tour. At this time, you will visit murals, churches, central market and museums. Also you’ll get to explore the biggest and one of the most beautiful Cathedral in Central America recongnized as a World Heritage Site. Inside the cathedral rest several illustrious Nicaraguan characters as well as one of the 2 oldest Catholic images. Here you will be able to go up on the roof so you can enjoy a superb view of the city and the volcanoes that surround it.
